B.Sc Animation

ABOUT US

What is Animation?

The word ‘animation’ is derived from anima, the Latin word for soul or spirit. The verb ‘to animate’ literally means ‘to give life to‘.

Animation is a graphic representation of drawings to show movement or shape change within those drawings. A series of drawings are linked together and usually photographed by a camera. The drawings have been slightly changed between individualized frames so when they are played back in rapid succession (24 frames per second) there appears to be seamless movement within the drawings.

Animation is an art form which can come from anywhere and which can go to anywhere – from a large production team working in a highly specialised studio or a lone individual working out of a bedroom, to an Imax Cinema screen several metres wide or a mobile phone screen a few centimetres across.

INFRASTRUCTURE

[rev_slider ANIMATION_INFRA]

In our Department, we have 3 well equipped spacious Animation labs and class rooms, a Drawing Hall and a Cel Animation Lab with Chroma key studio for our Students.

Animation Labs:

Our labs are equipped with good sound systems and each lab has one 60 inch LED TV. All animation-lab workstations are installed with the updated software packages such as “Adobe Master Collection (CS6 & CC 2018), Autodesk Packages, Avid Media Composer, Foundry Nuke”.

Cel Animation Lab:

Cel Animation is a traditional form of animation used in the production of cartoons and animated movies , where each frame of the scene is drawn by hand. A full-length feature film produced using cel animation would often require a million or more drawings to complete.

In our department we have one spacious cel Animation Lab with well conditioned Light Boxes.

Chroma Key Studio

Chroma key compositing, or chroma keying, is a visual effects/post-production technique for compositing (layering) two images or video streams together based on color hues (chroma range). The technique has been used heavily in many fields to remove a background from the subject of a photo or video – particularly the news casting, motion picture and videogame industries etc. In our department we have one green matte facilitated studio.

Drawing Hall

Drawing remains a central and pivotal activity to the work of many artists and designers – a touchstone and tool of creative exploration that informs visual discovery. It fundamentally enables the visualization and development of perceptions and ideas. With a history as long and intensive as the history of our culture, the act of drawing remains a fundamental means to translate, document, record and analyse the worlds we inhabit. The role of drawing in education remains critical, and not just to the creative disciplines in art and design for which it is foundational. In the field of Animation drawing plays a vital role.

The department has spacious, ventilated and well-equipped Drawing Hall with a 60 inch LED TV and a work station.
