ABOUT US
The Department of Commerce was established in the year 2008. It offers B.Com (Banking and Insurance), a three year undergraduate course in the area of Commerce affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University with sanctioned strength of 60 seats as a Co- Educated one .From 2008-09 academic year, the department successfully produces graduates in commerce with the potential of employability. The main aim of the course is to create trained professionals who are able to handle various financial activities associated with banking and insurance sectors. The syllabi help the candidate to get an exposure to operational environment in Banking, Insurance and other related firms in the financial service sector.
The candidate gets application-level training to handle various technologies employed in the field of Banking and Insurance through the course study. By pursuing the course, the candidate gets theoretical and application knowledge in various actions associated with banking and financial sector. The professionally skilled candidate in the area of banking and finance are highly demanded in various firms operating in the sector. The candidate can expect adequate career growth and rewarding salary packages by working in the sector. Apart from this, the candidate can go for higher education programs in the area of accounting and finance after pursuing the course.
ELIGIBILITY
- A pass in HSC or +2 from a reputed board
- With The Minimum of 60% Aggregate in Commerce
- With The Minimum of 65% Aggregate in Non Commerce (Science Students )

VALUE ADDED COURSE
The course will give knowledge inputs to the candidates and expose them to the operational processes and modern banking environment so that they can manage the counters at the bank from the first day of their joining the bank. It is expected that successful candidates of Diploma in Banking & Finance would have a competitive edge and will be absorbed by banks and financial institutions and Diploma in Banking & Finance would emerge as a preferred professional qualification with graduation for employment in banking and financial industries.
The course also helps the student to expose in the insurance field by providing the Licentiate examination (conducted by Indian Institute of Insurance) curriculum in the course syllabi.
As an additional feather to their crown Certificate courses on specific subjects is provided to the students each and every semester.
INFRASTRUCTURE
- Commerce Lab (Demo Banking) is established for giving practical training to the students to understand the real situation of bank working environment.
- Department of Commerce is equipped with computer lab to conduct online examinations for both internal & external for banking subjects especially IIBF-DBF with model tests practices.
